How Thick Should Concrete Be?

There is no one thickness for every concrete project. The intended use, anticipated loads, soil support, and applicable project requirements help determine the design.

Describe What the Slab Will Carry

Passenger vehicles, loaded trucks, storage, and equipment can create different demands. Give the project team specific information about expected use, rather than describing everything as heavy duty.

Thickness Is Only One Part

Thickness works with support, reinforcement, joints, concrete properties, and drainage. Increasing one dimension does not automatically correct shortcomings elsewhere.

Prepare for an Estimate

Collect the project location, approximate dimensions, drawings if available, access information, existing concrete conditions, and target schedule. Truck scale work also needs the selected equipment's drawings and specifications.

TAKE THIS TO YOUR NEXT CONVERSATION

Define the intended use before comparing concrete proposals.
