What Does Reinforcement Do?

Concrete is strong in compression. Reinforcement is used where the project needs additional resistance to tension or control of crack widths.

Rebar Does Not Prevent All Cracks

Properly located reinforcement can help limit how far cracks open. It does not prevent every crack, and it does not replace suitable ground preparation, joints, or curing.

Rebar Position Matters

Rebar size, spacing, cover, support, and location are project-specific. There is no single reinforcement arrangement that suits every patio, driveway, commercial slab, and scale installation.

Before Concrete Is Placed

Ask whether reinforcement follows the supplied plans and how it will remain in its specified position during placement. This is a good time to review the work, because the steel will soon be concealed.

TAKE THIS TO YOUR NEXT CONVERSATION

Ask about the specified reinforcement and its position, not just whether steel is included.
