Why Does New Concrete Need Curing?

Curing maintains suitable moisture and temperature so concrete can develop its intended properties. Drying means moisture leaves the material. Those are different processes.

A Dry Surface Is Not a Strength Test

A slab can look ready before it is ready for the planned load. The concrete mixture, weather, and curing conditions affect strength development. Get the project's instructions before allowing traffic.

Protect the Curing Process

Keep specified protection in place and follow the contractor's care instructions. Curing may use moisture retention, applied compounds, or other specified methods; do not substitute a generic routine for the project plan.

Before Adding Another Finish

If you intend to paint, seal, coat, or install bonded flooring, tell the project team early. Confirm compatibility with curing materials and follow the finish manufacturer's preparation and moisture requirements.
